COMPREHENSION AND SUMMARY
1.Read the passage below carefully than answer the questions that follow;
One old woman arrived at a place called Kihurio at the edge of the great lake Kalimawe.Her clothes were inrag her boys was thin and her face was ugly and wrinkled.As she walked into Kihurio thunder echoed in the Kihurio hills.Kihurio people were very happy that it was going to rain as all the rivers and the lakes were dry!
The people of Kihurio were eating and drinking heavily as they always did when expecting rainfall.When they saw the old woman arriving,Kihurio chief first drank deeply ftom this calablash and then said something to his companions.They all laughed.
“What brings you here you dirty old women”shouted chief manento.”Oh sir !” she replied “I beg you let me shelter here for the rainy clouds are gathering and soon it will rain”.The chief looked at the old woman in anger and amazement”. There is no place here for dirty women like you!” “He shouted proudly. Get the hell out of here”.
The old woman had no alternative to leave. The people of Kihurio laughed and pointed at the old woman.
On the outskirts there lived a widow who took pit of this Poor old woman. She welcomed her into her house,”All i have is a little Kande” said the widow.”Mama you are welcome to share the Kande with me”. As they were eating Kande, the old woman told the widow that she came to give the people of Kihurio the power to make rain.
“But unfortunately, I discovered in time that they do not diverseit.They have treated me badly, and for this I shall destroy them all”. And indeed, as from that day no rain fell in Kihurio!
